Many people will argue the VR industry doesn’t need even more expensive hardware and gadgets. There is something to be said for this particular statement. At the same time, the XTAL headset costs $5,800 and has many people excited. The device is developed by VRgineers and will be showcased during CES 2019.

Another VR Headset Few Will Ever buy

When attempting to get VR hardware into the hands of more people, making the tools necessary to do so more expensive is never an answer. VRgineers firmly believes otherwise, as they have announced a new VR headset which goes by the name of XTAL. Although the device has been shown off before, a revised version will be demoed at CES 2019. This doesn’t mean the price tag will become more appealing to the average consumer, though.

What makes this headset so unique – barring its exorbitant price tag – is the hardware under the hood. It offers two QHD OLED displays and 180-degree-field-of-view. All of these aspects will make for a very expensive price tag. For those who want to have the “best of the best” shelling out a lot of money is the only viable option moving forward.

Additionally, VRgineers claims their headset’s lenses will not be subject to blurring. That is very unusual when talking about VR headsets, as this has become a very common problem with all hardware. This is also why the increased field of view plays such a big role, as it helps reduce overall blurriness. The built-in Leap Motion sensors will also be of great value to future owners of this device.

It is evident this VR headset is not for everyone. In fact, it is only for the “elite”, rather than average consumers. That makes this particular unit off-limits to the people who would benefit from a robust VR headset the most. A very confusing business model by VRgineers, but the company firmly believes this is the most opportune time to launch a high-end VR headset.
