Based on the advantages of Near (NEAR) as a data availability layer, building EVM rollups are now more streamlined and cost efficient. A new integration between two major ecosystems, Near and Polygon for altcoins has just started, leading to more second-layer networks powered by the premium technology “ZK” proofs. With these kinds of networks, users will be able to save more on infrastructure resources and on transactional costs.

The Near DA layer is now fueling the Polygon CDK: Why Does this Matter?

The integration between Polygon CDK, which is an open-source L2 dev kit, and the Data Availability platform from Near, all users can make transactions 8,000 times much cheaper than on Ethereum (ETH) mainnet. These details were shared by the founder of Polygon Sandeep Nailwal with his 273,000 followers on X (formerly twitter).

8000x cheaper than Ethereum!

I wonder how does that compare to other DA solutions like Celestia? https://t.co/E0sSKTS6ng

The NEAR Data Availability layer (NEAR DA) is now available for all customers of Polygon CDK, which allows 3rd-party devs to develop and launch their own “zk” powered layer 2s for many many use cases.

They can set up some customizable features interms of native token, transaction costs, throughput, and much more, with no EVM-compatibility, security and developer experience tradeoffs, so the process is just a piece of cake.

Illia Polosukhin Comments on this Topic

The co-founder of NEAR Protocol, Illia Polosukhin, highlighted the importance of this integration for the capability of dApps in the cross-network interoperability, and on the Web3 future, and for cross-network interoperability in Web3, he said: “We’re excited to make NEAR DA available to Polygon CDK rollup builders and share the benefits of cost-effective, lightning-fast data availability that scales with NEAR’s sharding for the modular Ethereum ecosystem. This collaboration is another exciting one between NEAR Foundation and Polygon Labs to support the Chain Abstraction and to create even better experiences for all developers and users”.

The team of Near Protocol (NEAR) calculated that 231 kilo bytes array that can be variable in length, or wha is called “calldata” on NEAR Protocol costs around $0.0016, meanwhile the same calldata on the Ethereum L1 costs users around $140.54.

Should We Expect More zk-powered L2s in the Future?

Even when the Proto-Danksharding is active on Ethereum (ETH), this will result in a massive resource cost reduction, as well as transactional bandwidth increases. On the other hand, Polygon (MATIC) & Near (NEAR) started a long-term with multiple technical collaborations in order to build zkWASM, which is a new kind of prover for WASM blockchains.

It is now set to allow Web3 devs to create more zkWASM chains that are built on NEAR DA. and the products of this collaboration will be meaningful for both ASM scenes and the EVM.
