The founder of the electric car manufacturer Tesla, Elon Musk, spoke about plans to sell cars for the Dogecoin (DOGE) crypto. The businessman did not specify when exactly the new option might appear.

The businessman spoke about his plans to accept payments for Tesla in DOGE during his speech at the Berlin-Brandenburg Gigafactory, an electric car manufacturing plant that opened in the spring of 2022.

The Potential of Dogecoin

Musk’s statement was captured on video by one of the gigafarm visitors. In the recording, the businessman communicates with the audience from the stage. One attendee at the event asked Elon Musk if it would be possible to buy a Tesla with Dogecoin in the near future, to which the company founder replied, “at some point, I think we should implement it.”

The Connection Between Elon Musk with DOGE

The mask has a long relationship with Dogecoin. The businessman calls DOGE his favorite coin. With its help, he, among other things, saves his savings from inflation. According to some reports, Elon Musk secretly financed the development of DOGE.

The businessman often talks about Dogecoin and mentions the cryptocurrency in his posts on his social network X (formerly Twitter). Mentions of cryptocurrency by a businessman repeatedly triggered an increase in its rate. The fact is that Musk’s voice has special weight. In 2021, Piplsay analysts found that almost 40% of Americans are inspired by a businessman’s tweets when making investment decisions. Thus, Musk’s interest in Dogecoin provided the cryptocurrency with the status of the most capitalized memecoin .

Attempt Number Two

Previously, the Tesla team has already attempted to sell cars for crypto. The company began accepting Bitcoin in March 2021. Tesla’s decision was accompanied by the active growth of BTC . The joy did not last long. Already on May 12, Tesla refused to sell cars for bitcoins. Musk attributed the decision to his reluctance to support the negative impact that BTC mining has on the environment. Bitcoin reacted as expected with a fall.

According to Musk , Tesla will resume selling cars for cryptocurrencies after 50% of BTC miners switch to renewable energy sources. Research shows that the miners fulfilled the businessman’s condition back in September 2023. However, Tesla is in no hurry to resume selling cars for bitcoins.
