Many people wonder if it is indeed possible to lose weight in virtual reality. The answer to that question is not straightforward by any means. It is certainly true you can work up quite a sweat playing games and such. Floyd Mayweather has come up with a new VR experience that will help get people in proper shape. Known as Mayweather Boxing + Fitness, this new VR experience will be of great appeal to a lot of people.
Floyd Mayweather Sees Merit in VR
Having a VR headset is only part of the job these days. Most users would like to have ore to do when wearing this contraption. Not everyone enjoys playing video games or walking around locations they have never been to before. Working out in VR is something users are more than willing to pay for, even though one has to question whether or not there is a point in doing so. Most of the hardware – especially the head straps – don’t take kindly to excessive sweating.
That aside, Floyd Mayweather acknowledges there is a booming market waiting to be tapped. His new solution comes in the form of letting the user box and fitness in virtual reality. Users will need a compatible headset and a hand controller for the boxing aspect, It is unclear if a controller is needed for the fitness aspect as well, although it seems plausible to assume that is the case. After all, you can’t grasp at air while working out, that much is rather evident.
Mayweather Boxing + Fitness CEO James Williams comments:
“It has virtual Floyd teaching you first how to throw a punch in the right way, taking you through different punch combinations, teaching you how to duck, bob, and weave, and essentially coaching you throughout that workout, all the while getting a cardio, high intensity workout.”
Do keep in mind this VR program is supplemental training, rather than a replacement for the real thing. It seems this offering will only be available at the select gym locations which are expected to be opened by Floyd Mayweather in the next few weeks. Los Angeles will get its own gym, but more locations will be added as more time progresses. It is an interesting take on things, but it remains to be seen how things will play out in this regard.
