Plenty of people have taken a liking to the concept of working out in virtual reality. There are quite a few projects which target this industry as of right now. Black Box VR is by far one of the most intriguing concepts, as it merges a physical workout with VR eSports. It is evident there is a very bright future ahead for virtual reality, especially if we see more initiatives like these in the coming years.
Black Box VR is the Future of Exercise
It is evident there is a lot more to Black Box VR than meets the eye at first. The project integrates custom hardware and an original eSport software client to create a custom workout. For the user, they will still be immersed in a gamified experience, but they will effectively feel the burn in real life. It is the first time fitness and VR seemingly comes together without any big problems. Most headsets don’t handle extensive sweating all that well, but Black Box VR seems to handle that with ease.
Black Box VR CCO and co-founder Preston Lewis explains:
“In Black Box you will utilize strength, agility, balance, and speed in a larger than life virtual world where we are able to harness the nature that is brought out in video games—dedication, determination, and longevity—and turn it into real, physical workouts that challenge both mind and body.”
Although this concept is still in the early stages, it may very well become the future of physical exercise. Granted, it is not something one can do at home, as you need specialized equipment for this purpose. It is, for instance, possible to battle an AI opponent in chest pressures, curls, or even squats. The software tracks the amount of strength you exert with each repetition and increase weight resistance accordingly. It is a lot more intense than we can do it justice, but rest assured this is by far the most revolutionary concept in all of fitness to date.
For now, we have to wait and see when Black Box VR will officially come to market. The company hopes to go live in mid-2018, but no specifics were announced as of yet. These stand-alone gyms will be of great interest to a lot of users. Moreover, all users are kept in their own VR pods to experience their new and innovative workout. It is a pretty interesting concept which will certainly raise the bar for both virtual reality and the fitness industry as a whole.
