A lot of interesting and exciting VR-oriented projects exist as of right now. Terra Virtua is well worth keeping an eye on in this regard. Albeit it is a subscription-based service, the marketplace will give users full access to all VR and AR content on the market today. An interesting premise, but can it actually work in real life?

Terra Virtua Sounds Rather Promising

The team behind Terra Virtua like to portray their project as an all-you-can-eat buffet for VR and AR content. Owners of the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift will benefit from a  growing library of games and other experiences, which will all be part of a subscription-based marketplace. This new platform will also be made available across mobile VR headsets and the console-based versions, although no specific timeline has been presented in this regard.

If things go according to plan, the launch of Terra Virtua will occur in September of 2018. The company will also launch a developer incubator to help support studios make more VR content. If there is one thing the VR industry lacks right now, it is a wide collection of content that does not just come in the form of video games. A lot of opportunities are not being utilized right now, but that situation will hopefully change for the better.

Terra Virtua CEO Gary Bracey comments:

“I have been involved in producing and developing video games for over 35 years and the industry has been talking about VR for 25 of those years. n all that time, nobody has cracked VR with a mainstream product. This is partly because the hardware has historically been difficult to set up, but mostly because the experience isn’t as good as regular 2D games. The gameplay is not as varied, it’s not as easy to play with your friends and it doesn’t offer enough to come back for more. We are going to change this with Terra Virtua, by offering an entirely new type of entertainment platform.”

While the main bread and butter of Terra Virtua is its subscription model, the platform offers pay-per-view solutions as well. That in itself can make this new project quite appealing to various VR broadcasters around the world. The team also plans to launch a mixed reality companion app in October, which has a built-in virtual assistant. This should make it easier for users to effectively browse the marketplace and find the content they are looking for.
