It is evident innovative technologies tend to come together sooner or later. In the world of gaming, we now see an interesting correlation between VR, AR, and eSports. More specifically, the eSports broadcasts are slowly embracing these two new technologies to improve the overall production value.

Enhancing eSports Broadcasts With VR and AR

It is quite interesting to see how virtual and augmented reality can have an impact on the eSports sector. It is evident a lot of viewers would love to be immersed in the game a bit more, rather than just looking at things from a distance. With VR and AR technology becoming more commonplace, such an experience may come to market a lot sooner than expected. Turner’s TBS, among other channels, is now looking to up their production value of eSports games.

To put this into proper perspective, there are quite a few challenges producers need to take into account. Bringing eSports to life in VR or AR is not all that straightforward. While broadcasters want to bring the audience closer to the action, doing so in a convenient and immerse manner is a different thing altogether. With VR and AR headsets slowly becoming cheaper as we speak, things will get very interesting in the near future.

It is not the first time AR makes inroads in the sports coverage department either. Projecting scores and other data over the actual video feed is usually done through augmented reality techniques. This has become so commonplace as of late, most people don’t even pay any special attention to it any longer. For eSports, the opportunities are virtually limitless. Blending characters or objects with the real world is one of the options worth exploring in this regard.

Turner’s TBS also has a history of bringing AR to eSports broadcasts in the pst. Whether or not they can do the same with virtual reality, remains to be determined. The broadcaster has some experience with interactive mixed reality, thus the jump to VR should not be all that big, all things considered. Enhancing the eSports industry can only be considered to be a good thing in the long run. Bringing the audience closer to the action is something everyone can look forward to.
