Dealing with terminal cancer puts people in a very different mood others simply can’t imagine. All people can do is provide the “patient” with as much comfort as possible. Virtual reality technology can make a big impact in this regard. Ashiya Municipal Hospital is now using VR to take terminal cancer patients to their personal dream locations.

The Mental Relief of VR Technology

Most people who do not suffer from a medical condition or terminal illness see virtual reality as a gizmo that may not be around for much longer. For those who suffer from terminal cancer, virtual reality can effectively be a relief in many different ways. Cancer patients at  Ashiya Municipal Hospital can now visit their “bucket list” destinations in virtual reality as a way to deal with their impending fate.

Although this is just a limited trial, for the time being, it just goes to show how virtual reality can make a positive impact in many different ways. Most of the recipients are quite happy about the experience itself, although it is not the same as effectively visiting these locations. Improving the patients’ quality of life during their final stretch on this planet is always an option worth looking into.

Some of the patients are even impressed with the technology and how far along it has come. Being able to relive a concert one couldn’t attend due to their terminal cancer diagnosis, for example, is something patients wouldn’t expect to achieve anytime soon. the combination of visuals, sound, and the overall environment witnesses as part of the VR experience can yield some interesting results in the long run.

It is worth pointing out this specific VR device is used in conjunction with Google’s video software app. This allows users to step into any visual scenario around the world without any issues or requirements. It also accommodates imagery of a patient’s home or any other 360-degree camera data one can think of. It is evident VR technology can be of incredible value to the medical sector for many different purposes.
