It is very difficult to determine what VR users want exactly. Although most people seemingly want the same in the end, it has become evident there are some positive trends to note as well. One in four effectively uses VR on a daily basis now, which is a very positive development for this nascent industry. There is still plenty of room for future improvements, though.
What do VR Users Want Exactly?
To most people, it almost sounds impossible to determine what virtual reality users want exactly. The end result should not really surprise anyone at this stage. Social engagement is still lacking in virtual reality, yet addressing this problem is not easy by any means.
Nearly eight in ten users acknowledge they seek more social engagement. This is a sign of maturity, as 28% of users effectively use their VR headset on a daily basis, according to the survey. Two in three use it at least once a week, which further confirms things are slowly coming together for the VR industry as a whole.
It would appear the isolating nature of VR technology makes users crave social interaction. While immersed in a virtual environment, most people will be cut off from real-world stimuli as long as their session lasts. Adding social components to VR isn’t easy, yet Mozilla’s Hubs venture may prove to be of some comfort in this regard.
There are many things to take away from this survey. It is evident VR is still growing as an industry, and things direly need to improve sooner rather than later. How that change will be driven, remains to be determined. Until consumers have a reason to use their headset every single day, these numbers may not change all that much moving forward.
