Virtual reality can make a positive impact in many different ways. It can offer convenience, joy, and even relief to the right people. Aberdeen Royal Infirmary received two VR headsets from the Orion Group. Additional units have been deployed to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness and Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

VR Makes Inroads in Children’s Hospitals

Children do not like to spend time at a hospital. Unfortunately for some, it is an all too common occurrence due to medical conditions. To ease their pain and suffering, various hospital across Scotland have received a donation of virtual reality headsets courtesy of the Orion Group. Several units have been distributed to the hospital across Inverness, Dundee, and Aberdeen. It is a small step toward lifting the spirits of young patients.

This is one of the “sectors” where virtual reality technology can make a world of difference. Unlike other technologies, VR can effectively make a big impact on people’s perception during dire situations. For hospital patients, it can make the experience a lot less stressful and annoying. The children at these hospitals will be transparent to very different environments during their stay, which may offer them a glimmer of joy during these trialing days.

So far, it appears the children are quite pleased with the VR headsets. It allows them to have fun and play games in a different environment compared to what they are used to. It is not just games making a positive impact so far, as the other content accessible through these VR headsets is also well-received. Some children are actively exploring the documentaries available to them, among other things.

It is evident efforts like these will put a positive spin on virtual reality technology as a whole. Although this is only a small effort to bring VR to children in dire need of some mental relief, it does show there are a lot of use cases for this technology worth exploring. Recreational use of virtual reality technology will give young patients a slightly easier time during their hospital visits.
