There are many possible use cases or virtual reality technology. Participating in a reenactment of the Titanic trip, for example, is something worth exploring. VR Education, an Irish firm, will launch such an experience for PlayStation VR owners very soon. It is another interesting example of what this immersive technology is capable of.
Board the Titanic in Virtual Reality
The demise of the Titanic has inspired many books, documentaries, songs, a major movie, and now virtual reality. That is a logical step in the evolution, as a lot of people want to experience what it is like to board this once majestic vessel. Titanic VR< a new offering for PlayStation VR users, is an interesting example in this regard. Users will experience hitting the iceberg from a first-person point of view.
In this experience, users can explore the Titanic at their leisure. Titanic VR, while already available on PC, Oculus Rift, HTC VIve, and Windows MR, is now finally coming to the PlayStation VR. This release has been somewhat slower than the team originally anticipated, albeit they are pleased it will be released this fiscal year. More importantly, they expect this title to become a big hit among PS VR users.
The Titanic VR experience is just one of the projects VR Education focuses on right now. Its main selling point is the Engage training platform, which focuses on online learning and corporate training. Given the appeal VR has among major companies, it is only a matter of time until platforms like Engage become a lot more appealing all of a sudden.
Whether or not PlayStation VR users will show any interest in the Titanic VR experience, remains to be seen. The product will be made available as of November 22nd, albeit a price has not been announced at this time. Given the lackluster appeal of most VR experiences, one can only hope this one does a better job. Players want to engage with their environment, rather than experience a glorified walking simulator.
