Dreamworld Vision Claims They Will Sell Augmented Reality Glasses For $350 or Less

It is always good to learn future hardware for augmented reality is becoming a lot cheaper. Dreamworld Vision, a company recently raising $2 million, claims they will make affordable augmented reality glasses available soon. At the price point of US$350, this hardware is much cheaper compared to anything else focusing on AR. The glasses do connect to your phone, though, which could be a slight drawback.

Dreamworld Has Big Plans For AR Glasses

As one would come to expect from an innovative market, everything related to augmented reality hardware is incredibly expensive right now. Even other headsets and glasses in development right now are close to hitting the four-digit price tag. Dreamworld Vision has different plans, though, as they want to make their product more accessible and affordable.

To be more specific, the Dreamworld Glass is quite an interesting project, assuming the company can deliver on its promise. So far, there are – according to rumors – two different form factors. One is small and light, whereas the other is larger in shape due to depth sensors and cameras that provide positional tracking. It is unclear if both versions will come to market, but for now it is safe to say the final product may look entirely different.

The bigger question is what these AR glasses are capable of. Content menu selection is the bread and butter of augmented reality, and these glasses should support it with relative ease. Augmented reality will play a big role in the educational sector as well, and the glasses should support object manipulation from day one. Interestingly enough, it seems Dreamworld Glass has some form of a VR mode as well, although it is not nearly as sophisticated as an actual virtual reality headset.

In the end, a project like this will stand or fall based on how well they handle tracking. Microsoft is the clear market leader in their regard, as their HoloLens’ wireless AR tracking is on a different level right now. It does not appear Dreamworld Glass will solve these issues right now, although it is still a bit early to tell. For now, it’s expected this AR hardware will ship in a limited supply and will not be available everywhere either. Assuming the company can make good on its US$350 price tag, things could get very interesting by the end of 2017.
