The concept of a VR arcade is nothing new under the sun. However, they are still quite rare, especially in Europe. That is coming to change, as London will get its own VR arcade very soon. That is quite a major development in the UK capital. Players can book slots to experience VR content. The entire arcade will make use of HTC Vive HMDs, which is another notch in the belt for the hardware manufacturer. This is another major move to make VR more appealing across Europe.
VR Arcades Are Slowly Becoming More Common
Until a few years ago, people assumed VR arcades would never become a trend. They have been sorely mistaken in this regard, though. These arcades are becoming more common in the US and Asia. Europe is next on the list, with London getting its first VR arcade soon. This is a major development for the virtual industry as a whole. Users will be able to use an HTC Vive and experience VR content after they book slots for this particular purpose.
A total of 25 different applications and games will make up the VR Arcade experience. It is also possible more games and experiences will be added at a later stage, although that has not been officially confirmed. It all depends on which licensing model is used by DNAVR, the company operating this VR arcade. Starting out with 25 different apps is a good choice, though. It gives clients plenty to choose from and will provide the VR developers with additional feedback too.
It is important to note the London VR arcade will not be all about single-player games either. There is an exclusive multiplayer VR game experience available as well, which goes by the name of Alice in Wonderland Stories. This game pits two to six players in an environment where they need to collaborate. Rest assured this leads to quite a few hilarious situations, as collaborating in VR is much more difficult than one might think.
It is good to see VR arcade becoming more common than people may think. Buying an HTC Vive remains far too expensive for most consumers. Paying a small fee to get limited access to such an HMD is an excellent solution. Although this does not mean the arcade will be successful, there is no reason to think it won’t succeed either. VR arcades are quite popular in other countries around the world. The London VR arcade will launch later this month, however no specific date has been announced yet.
