Virtual reality enthusiasts will be happy to hear some major games will get VR support in the future. Both Doom and Fallout 4 will have their own VR versions later this year. The news was announced at E3 2018, and Bethesda confirmed Doom VFR will be made available in October of this year. Fallout 4 VR should arrive around the same time.

Doom and Fallout 4 Will Come to VR Soon

A lot of gamers rejoiced at the news of both Doom and Fallout 4 getting their stand-alone VR version in 2017. Although the VR ecosystem offers a lot of engaging games, there are very few AAA titles to speak of. Both Doom and Fallout 4 have been well-received by fans all over the world. It only makes sense to create unique VR experiences for both games moving forward. It is expected both games will be made available later this year.

The Doom experience will be called Doom VFR. It is the VR adaptation of the recently released game by Bethesda. Players will be able to move forward and shoot at enemies along the way. Players will use virtual hands within the game to pick up items and browse through the on-screen menus. The game will be made compatible with both the HTC Vive and PlayStation VR. Other HMDs will not be supported, by the look of things.

Fallout 4 VR, on the other hand, will not be a limited experience either. In fact, Bethesda claims it will be the exact same version of the game players fell in love with. The entire game world can be explored in virtual reality, which is quite an impressive feat. Additionally, the combat system has been optimized for VR, and the V.A.T.S. will receive optimization improvements as well. Fallout 4 VR will be released for the HTC Vive only, unfortunately.

All of this goes to show popular mainstream games can benefit from VR optimization. Recreating Fallout 4 in VR will be quite challenging for Bethesda, although it is evident the company has been working on this project for some time now. It is a bit unclear if Doom VFR will be the full Doom game as well, though. The bigger question is how much these games will cost. Games for VR are not cheap, especially not if the “normal” version of the full game is still selling quite well.
