A lot of franchises can benefit from additional exposure through virtual reality. Square Enix acknowledges there is a lot of potential waiting to be tapped. The company will bring Kingdom Hearts VR to the PlayStation ecosystem later in 2018. It will be a standalone and free experience for fans of the series to enjoy.
Kingdom Hearts VR Sounds Appealing
During this week, PlayStation LineUp event in Japan, a major surprise announcement took place. No one expected any new gaming franchises to be coming to virtual reality this year. In the case of Square Enix, the firm shocked a lot of people. Their Kingdom Hearts VR experience is coming to the PlayStation VR exclusively. It will be a free download which provides a brief outing in the game’s universe.
It is expected this VR experience will last just 10 minutes. Even so, the experience will be of great value to fans of the franchise. Players will relive past memories from previous adventures and games It is also a smart marketing stunt to promote the third entry of the series. That game will come to console in January of 2019.
The experience will be worth checking out for many different reasons. Users will be able to unlock exclusive digital content through Kingdom Hearts VR. It is unclear what one can expect, but free goodies should never be ignored whatsoever. For now, it remains unclear when this next experience will be released exactly. Square Enix hinted at a “late 2018” date without further clarification.
It will be interesting to see if this VR experience can generate additional buzz for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts game. Fans of the series will undoubtedly have a blast, but it is equally important to cater to new enthusiasts. Virtual reality has not been the most successful medium so far in this regard. Sooner or later, things will improve in this regard.
