Virtual reality can be a great tool for creators and visual artists. Anyone active in the world of drawing, painting, and even sculpting can find something in the virtual reality world that is of interest to them. It turns out there are quite a few applications for creators of this magnitude out there. We have looked at a few different options, although comparing them directly is incredibly difficult due to many differences.
3. Quill
Quill is a VR illustration tool available on the Oculus Rift. Its primary selling point – it is a US$30 app, after all – is to empower creators and artists to create concepts or final artworks. Users can paint in virtual reality and enjoy different brushes and color tools. It is designed to be an intuitive tool for creators, regardless of their previous technical training. The bigger question is whether or not Quill will be supported by Oculus in the future, as that has not been officially confirmed just yet.
2. Medium
For artists who are well-versed in sculpting and modeling, Medium is an application well worth checking out. Medium is another Oculus Rift application that provides an immersive VR experience to artists. What is rather appealing is how this software caters to both novice sculptors and true artists alike. By using the Oculus Touch controllers, creators can use this application in the same manner as they would create objects in real life. An interesting application well worth checking out for artists interested in virtual reality.
1. Masterpiece VR
For a free application, Masterpiece VR is nothing short of amazing. The application can be found in the Steam Store, and allows users to create sculptures, paintings, and virtual models. It is compatible with both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.It is an excellent tool for both advanced and novice artists alike. Considering it is free to use, everyone with an artistic background should give it a try. It packs quite a lot of features as well, which is good to see. The only limitation is one’s imagination when using this app.
