Ever since virtual reality became a trend, there have been multiple concerns over this technology. Especially in the adult industry, there are plenty of opportunities. At the same time, one could argue this creates an unstable mental situation for anyone partaking in such experiences. Virtual reality sex scenes go back to 2014, but it seems they are only gaining more traction right now.
Is Virtual Reality for Intimate Porn?
The Internet is for porn, as some people like to say. Considering how VR makes the adult content even more impressive, one could state virtual reality is for intimate porn experiences. Whether or not that is an official “label” the industry will be happy with, remains to be seen. One thing few people are aware of is how VR adult content is nothing new. In fact, some actors and actresses have been involved in VR sex scenes since 2014 or even prior to that date.
The main bread and butter of adult content actors is to ensure the audience is convinced. Connecting with the male or female in the video isn’t something most people give a second thought. Nor is it something people would actively look for either. However, when it comes to virtual reality, it becomes “easier” to form an intimate connection with other parties. It is almost as if a solo scene is created specifically for you, the viewer.
According to Ela Darling, her first VR sex scene was “sexy as hell”. With no storyline or other actors to contend with, she could do her own thing to make it as intimate as possible. Without VR, most engagement is on the “voyeur” level first and foremost. The separating between actors and their fans is very real outside of the VR industry. Within a virtual reality, the barrier all but disappears completely, which creates a very different situation.
This also explains why VR porn has become such a hot trend over the years. While the presentation is not as “mainstream” as people would expect, the number of views in virtual reality is increasing every quarter. It is expected adult content will be the third-largest VR industry by 2025. That is an ambitious goal, but it is certainly possible. Adult content will be behind video games and sports, although those projections may need to be updated as more time progresses.
