More and more new VR headsets are coming to market as we speak. Although mobile VR is still a  very niche market, many people also consider it to be the entry level for virtual reality in general. Huawei plans to unveil a new headset to cater to this particular crowd. The Huawei VR2 is perhaps one of the most comfortable headsets we have seen to date. Unlike most other similar products, the Asian company wants people to be comfortable when wearing such a device first and foremost.

Huawei VR2 can be a Major Game Changer

When it comes to virtual reality headsets, comfort is something that is pretty difficult to come by right now. It is unclear why that is the case, though. Considering most people will spend several hours wearing this device on their face, it is of the utmost importance to ensure people won’t grow irritated of doing so. Right now, it all depends on which VR headset you buy, as some of them are more comfortable than others. Huawei plans to shake up the game a bit with their VR2 model, which was announced during CES 2018.

More specifically, this is not a model which requires the use of a smartphone. The previous iteration of Huawei’s headset still did so, but it was never considered to be a barrier to entry whatsoever. With the VR2, the company introduces a standalone headset which should be capable of rivaling the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Or that is what the company hopes to achieve in the future, but only time will tell if that is a realistic goal.

It is still possible to connect a phone, tablet, or computer to this headset through a USB-C connection, assuming the user wants to explore that option. With a resolution of 1600 by 1440 pixels per eye, it is also an improvement over most first-gen VR headsets we have seen so far. Moreover, the VR2 has a 90hz refresh rate, which most users will thoroughly appreciate. It helps reduce eye strain and motion sickness, although making it a non-factor will always be a struggle.

Combining this powerful hardware with a comfortable unit makes for a worthy contender as far as the Huawei VR2 is concerned. It even has its own controllers, which will most likely be bundled with the unit when it comes to market. Having the option to combine it with both mobile and desktop devices only makes the unit even more appealing to the masses. For the time being, it remains unclear how much the Huawei VR2 will cost, but there’s genuine reason to be excited about this new VR headset.
