Bringing more top-quality content to VR headsets is a very steep challenge. Especially when it comes to cinematic VR creation, there are not that many big-name studios around just yet. Several former members of Oculus Story Studio have now launched their own studio which goes by the name of Fable. Their first project has been announced, which is an adaptation of The Wolves in the Walls. An interesting development by a studio well worth keeping an eye on.
More Cinematic VR Content is a Good Thing
No one will deny the virtual reality space is still in its infancy when it comes to content creation. Although there are hundreds of games and apps available, the “other content” is still difficult to come across. Especially for people who live outside of the US, watching any sports or other types of broadcasts in VR is pretty much impossible. It is due time something changes, which is why we need more cinematic VR studios. Fable, the newly formed studio by former Oculus Story Studio members, may help fill this void in the coming months and years.
More specifically, the new studio is currently working on a VR adaptation of The Wolves in the Walls. This children’s book is written by Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman. it certainly makes for an interesting showcase of what this new studio is capable of. There are four additional projects the Fable team is working, on, which go by the names of Ten, Origin, Derailed, and Magic River Yacht Ride. This further confirms there is definitely a demand for exploring cinematic VR content, which can only be considered to be a good thing.
The VR adaptation of The Wolves in the Walls will be released in the form of three separate episodes. The first episode will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival later this week. Venues like these are always a great place to showcase what virtual reality is really capable of in terms of immersion and storytelling. So far, few companies have actively explored this particular industry. That will come to change at some point in the future, but for now, it is not easy to survive as a studio.
It is important to note Fable has no intentions of creating free content. More specifically, the company aims to charge $1 for every 10 minutes of content VR users can enjoy. It is a good time to finally showcase how VR content can effectively become a revenue stream, but it remains to be seen if this venture will be successful. Moreover, the studio will not just focus on VR, as they are contemplating AR experiences as well. It will be interesting to see how things play out for Fable,
