Virtual reality can provide users with a very different experience. Some of those offerings are very strange, yet that doesn’t make them less appealing. Babaoshan Cemetery in Beijing offers a new VR experience with gives viewers a glimpse into the afterlife. It sounds a lot more disturbing than it really is, although it may not necessarily be for everyone.
A Glimpse of the Afterlife in VR
While it is commendable to see some companies offer a completely different VR experience, a lot of people are not necessarily interested in figuring out what the afterlife entails. For those who are a bit more curious, Beijing’s Babaoshan Cemetery is the place to be in this regard. Their new VR experience lets players experience death in a very unique way. It sounds very gloomy, but it goes to show there are still a lot of untapped opportunities to explore.
Users can choose between two different scenarios for this particular experience. Up first is the near-death experience of a hospital patient walking toward the bright light at the end of the tunnel. Players are transported to what seemingly resembles heaven and shows flashbacks of a past life which is entirely computer-generated. A rather gripping experience altogether.
The second option is completely different. It allows users to witness the funeral procedures and facilities on offer at Babaoshan. As one would expect, these two-pronged VR experience meets a lot of criticism in China right now. Even so, the after-death VR experience can still serve as a form of therapy in the long run as well, depending on how one wants to look at things.
It is evident no one knows for sure what happens when we die. Nor will we ever find out either, as it becomes evident there is no one to tell us this information. A VR experience can only make an educated guess in this regard, and it seems this particular venture touches upon a few sensitive concepts. Whether or not a lot of people will check out these experiences, is a different matter altogether.
