Intel is one of the biggest technology firms on the planet. Their Sports division is now partnering with Altia Systems to live broadcast sports in 3D VR. This is made possible thanks to the latter firm’s new 4K-capable 180-degree 3D live broadcasting cameras. Combined with Intel’s True VR platform, the end result will be rather entertaining.
More Sports are Coming to VR
No one will deny there is a gaping lack of VR content for regular users to enjoy. Sports are a great filler in this regard, mainly because it remains a very popular type of broadcast. Intel Sports acknowledges there are opportunities abound. Their partnership with Altia Systems can put VR on the map once and for all.
Altia has recently unveiled their PanaCast Live. This camera is portable and provides live broadcasting of 180-degree 4K content. 3D Video will be rendered at 60 frames per second, a standard some consumers in the US have gotten accustomed to, courtesy of some sports channels.
By combining these powerful cameras with Intel’s True VR technology, major professional sports viewing will become a lot more immersive. Viewers will be injected into the action itself, which has always been one of the main selling points of virtual reality technology.
Although specifics remain unclear, a variety of sporting events will be broadcasted. This can be accessed through the Intel TrueVR app or its partner branded application. There is also support for regular desktop streaming if the user doesn’t have a VR headset. A positive development, all things considered.
