The movie industry stands to gain tremendously from virtual reality technology over the coming years. Ridley Scott, one of the most famous movie creators of all times, is thinking along the same lines. His RSA Films company launched a division dedicated to creating VR, AR, and mixed reality productions. An interesting turn of events, although the future of virtual reality in cinema and movies has yet to be determined for the most part.

Ridley Scott Banks Big on VR and AR

It was a matter of time until a movie production studio would venture into the world of virtual and augmented reality. That is exactly what RSA VR is doing, and they will start by creating an Alien: Covenant production moving forward. Additional content for users to enjoy in VR and AR will help generate some more buzz for this upcoming movie. It will be an interesting experiment, to say the least.

The people working on this new project should not be underestimated by any means either. The RSA VR division is headed by Jen Dennis, who most people will remember from co-production The Martian VR Experience. This particular venture was a rather big success, although that was mainly because so many people enjoyed watching The Martian itself. Then again, creating a companion experience to such a blockbuster film is no easy feat either.

It will be interesting to see what RSA VR develops in relation to the Alien: Covenant movie. The movie lends itself perfectly to all kinds of immersive experiences, although no one knows for sure what the production studio has planned. It is evident Ridley Scott and RSA are very committed to making VR and AR a success in the movie industry moving forward, though.

It is also worth mentioning RSA has other projects in the pipelines. BlackBox is a virtual reality episodic series, which is being developed thanks to a collaboration with Endless VR. A documentary episodic series will be announced in the coming months, which focuses on the immersive VR experience as well. More content is direly needed for this powerful technology, and with the support of major industry names, virtual reality will gain some more mainstream traction moving forward.
