Implementing virtual reality in a commercial manner can be achieved in many different ways. Location-based VR is slowly gaining traction. Especially in the United States, there appears to be a growing demand for such experiences. Especially in the state of California, an interesting trend is taking shape.
Location-based VR is Growing
To most people, location-based virtual reality and VR arcades are one and the same. In most cases, that is absolutely correct, although there are some subtle differences between the two as well. In the case of Survivos in Torrance, CA, it seems the company is intent on improving the overall mainstream footprint of virtual reality.
Location-based gaming is a very interesting business, albeit an expensive one. With more consumers showing an interest in VR, these gateways” into immersive technologies are only becoming more important. The persistent lack of demand from consumer allows location-based VR to thrive, compared to regular ventures.
There are some key benefits to this particular business model. With most households not willing to pay the steep cost for a premium VR headset, any company exposing consumers to this technology will gain traction. For the consumer, it is a cheaper, more convenient, and more social solution.
That being said, location-based VR gaming remains a very niche market within the overall virtual reality ecosystem. It is a cutthroat business which requires hefty upfront investments which may not be paid off in quick succession. Even so, the opportunities and benefits are clearly visible for everyone to see.
