Emirates is one of the world’s biggest airline carriers to date. The firm has offered a high degree of comfort and technology which other carriers can’t even compete with. The company is now introducing virtual reality to let passengers pick their seats on any flight. This new service will undoubtedly get a lot of attention, for many different reasons.
Emirates Embraces Virtual Reality
Airline carriers have to keep tabs on emerging technologies at all times. Despite all of the innovations over the years, booking a flight and picking one’s seat is still a very tedious process. Emirates acknowledges this situation needs to be streamlined first and foremost. The company is now offering a virtual reality experience to make this process a lot smoother.
Through this new VR service, Emirates passengers can pick the exact seat they want on that specific flight. Users can navigate through a 3D-model of the aircraft they will embark on at a later stage. As such, it offers a new level of convenience to Emirates passengers. Although it is not necessarily the best solution to solve this ongoing seat-picking problem, it does put an entertaining spin on the entire concept.
Emirates SVP of corporate communications, marketing and branding Alex Knigge comments:
“We are pleased to be the world’s first airline to introduce this cutting-edge web VR technology, which offers our customers an immersive opportunity to learn more about the fantastic Emirates experience before they step on board.”
Users can access this new VR service through the Emirates website or native application. A 360-degree of the first, business, and economy cabins of the company’s Airbus A380s and Boeing 777 planes will be accessible at all times. With a Google Cardboard VR headset, the experience becomes a lot more enjoyable and immersive. Viewers can also check out the Shower Spa and Onboard Lounge during this VR “trip”. It will be interesting to see if other airline carriers will take a similar approach moving forward.
