In the virtual reality industry, the opportunities are nearly limitless. That is a promising sign, even though it remains to be determined how this situation will evolve. A brand new VR simulation aims to provide valuable insight as to what people experience when they die. Embodied Labs is venturing down an interesting path in this regard.

Experiencing Death in Virtual Reality

As morbid as the topic may be, a lot of people are curious as to what happens when we die. To date, there is no clear-cut answer to this question, as it is impossible to predict what happens at that time. Even a near-death experience cannot recreate the exact same situation. As such, the guessing game continues, albeit it also creates some interesting opportunities.

According to Embodied Labs, they can give hospice workers an idea as to what happens if people die. Their new VR simulation is currently in use by Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. It is also a necessary “course’ for medical students at the University of New England. This shows the VR offering has a lot of potential, regardless of its ‘accuracy”.

Regardless of how people may look at things, everyone will die in the end. No one knows what will come, but any insight into this fact of life can be worth exploring. For hospice workers, they can offer the correct amount of empathy and emotional support to family members of the deceased

Whether or not VR experiences like these will bring more excitement to the virtual reality industry, is difficult to predict  Every new option has to be explored, even if it touches upon one of the most difficult conversation topics in the world. Being able to experience someone else’s death first-hand is still uncomfortable, yet also oddly fascinating.
