As the holidays draw near, there will be an increasing focus on technology, gadgets, and gaming. Given all of the discounts to benefit from, it is also one of the most affordable times to get involved in virtual reality. Some interesting bargains can be found in the US over the coming weeks, although getting consumers excited about this technology is still a difficult hurdle to overcome.

Can Christmas Save VR Sales?

It ha snot been a good year for virtual reality sales. This is notable in both the hardware and software department. Very few engaging and long-term use cases for virtual reality exist today. On the productivity front, there is plenty of room for improvement. Even for entertainment purposes, things are not looking all that hot under the current circumstances.

With the upcoming holidays, however, VR sales may get a welcome nudge. A lot of deals are to be expected regarding major VR headsets such as the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and so forth. Additionally, there will be some deals on games and applications to keep an eye on as well. There is no point to buying a virtual reality headset without content to consume.

Another option to keep an eye on is Windows Mixed Reality. This technology offers access to both VR and augmented reality solutions. Although this platform is developed by Microsoft, it is quite versatile in how it will behave. It also requires a less powerful computer compared to those needed to power VR headsets. Furthermore, most commonly sued Windows applications will work extremely well in this new interface.

With all of these upcoming sales, it will become quite interesting to see how overall sales are affected. Even the biggest discounts will not necessarily persuade a lot of people either. Both the VR and MR industry suffer from a lack of content, although one could argue Windows Mixed Reality has a slight competitive edge. A lot of traditional apps work just fine, and it offers VR access to, up to a certain extent.
