The VR industry is still firing on all cylinders, even though the same struggles remain in place. Some companies are looking to make this technology more appealing. With the introduction of haptic feedback, a VR experience can be elevated to a whole new level. This new collaboration between Ultrahaptics, Fallen Planet Studios, and ImmotionVR is worth paying attention to.

Bringing Haptic Feedback to VR

On paper, virtual reality is the most immersive technology available today. Users can be transported to virtual environments without too many problems. However, when they experience the new world, none of their actions feel real. This is primarily due to the lack of haptic feedback when interacting with objects. Numerous companies have tried to introduce haptic feedback, albeit to little success so far.

That doesn’t mean this effort is no longer worth pursuing. In the UK, several companies have joined forces to bring haptic feedback to virtual reality. Their first haptic VR experience is currently available for the masses to consume. Known as AFFECTED: The Visit, this collaboration creates haptic feedback by using ultrasound to create a sense of touch.

Ultrahaptics co-founder Tom Carter adds:

“Audiences have really loved AFFECTED: The Visit. This collaboration provides an opportunity to showcase what UK companies have to offer the growing virtual reality market. We can’t wait to share it with our home audience.”

There is something thrilling about entering a virtual haunted house and witness scares and events. Interested users can experience AFFECTED: The Visit at ImmotionVR in Bristol until the end of February 2019. It is possible the experience will come to other ImmotionVR locations throughout the UK. The company runs eight VR experience centers across the region.
