HTC Confirms Viveport Infinity Launch for April 2nd

Although HTC isn’t overly successful in VR hardware sales, their software solutions can make a big impact. Earlier this week, the company announced Viveport Infinity. This service grants subscribers access to several hundred apps and games. While its monthly price of $19.99 is quite steep, it will be rather appealing to virtual reality enthusiasts.

Can Viveport Infinity become Successful?

The launch of this new subscription service is not a big surprise. Viveport has always been a big part of HTC’s VR ecosystem. What is remarkable, however, is how the new service is not limited to HTC’s own VR headsets. Instead, Oculus Rift owners can access all of the content as well. With hundreds of apps and games to choose from, there should be something for everyone.

Moreover, any standalone VR headset built on VIVE WAVE will benefit from this subscription service as well. HTC also announced a different revenue split for developers to attract more content. By offering developers 80% of the earnings per sale, an important step in the right direction has been taken. It is expected the service will launch globally on April 2nd, and a yearly subscription of $79 will also be available.

Accessing this range of VR offerings is only one part of the deal. It seems users will gain “exclusive benefits” along the way. This includes special offer son titles, coupons, and perhaps exclusive access to certain games and apps. This service will not replace the traditional Viveport service, which will remain accessible at the same time.

Viveport Infinity subscribers will earn a monthly voucher to spend on Viveport content. There will also be major discounts on Viveport offerings during the first week of Viveport Infinity launching. It seems the company is finally hitting its stride in terms of virtual reality. For HTC, this may be a decisive turn in the right direction.
