Mobile virtual reality gaming is undergoing some big changes as we speak. Dunsun, an Asian manufacturer, has announced their new handheld controller. This is a major development for anyone looking to use their mobile device for VR purposes. The new controller uses a touchpad and a 9-axis motion sensing gyroscope. It allows players to control their VR headset via Bluetooth, which adds a lot of convenience.
Dunsun Brings Convenience to Mobile VR
Up until this point, mobile VR has not proven to be a big success. More specifically, the entire VR industry hasn’t caught on in a significant manner. Mobile devices are underpowered compared to dedicated gaming computers. This also means most of the mobile VR content is less appealing. These headsets are more designed for content consumption, yet lack a convenient controller. That is soon coming to change, thanks to Dunsun’s new gadget.
Their Bluetooth controller works with both Android and iOS devices. It does require the installation of the Baofeng App, though. However, it allows for remotely controlling the VR experience outputted by the phone. Having a Bluetooth-based controller while using Netflix, for example, can be invaluable. It prevents users from having to touch the VR headset itself. Moreover, it improves multitasking as well whenever needed. The company claims they can provide the “best VR experience with high stability and accuracy”.
The controller features 9-axis sensor fusion software to improve overall performance. It also ensures motion control within apps or games is taken care of in an adequate manner. Data is extracted from the gyroscope and accelerometer sensors to produce application-ready outputs. The addition of a touchpad is also quite significant, as it introduces a lot of new features to mobile VR headset owners in general. Having an option to go back or return to a previous screen is invaluable in this regard.
So far, it appears the Dusun VR controller can be used by both right-handed and left-handed people. With mobile VR software downloads soaring to new heights, proper Bluetooth controllers will become even more important than before. Pricing of the controller has not been communicated at the time of writing. However, it is expected the gadget will be rather cheap, considering it is tailored toward mobile VR users. It will be interesting to see whether or not other manufacturers will unveil similar products in the future.
