NEAR is now compatible with MetaMask, a widely used wallet in Web3! For the first time, MetaMask users will have the capability to generate NEAR accounts, validate NEAR Protocol transactions, and access a variety of other features directly within the MetaMask wallet, all thanks to the innovative NEAR Snap.

NEAR Snap

The NEAR Snap, designed by HERE Wallet, and backed by the Banyan Collective, has been seamlessly incorporated into the recently introduced MetaMask Snap ecosystem. This ecosystem consists of various apps developed by independent teams in Web3, aiming to enhance the blockchain wallet experience.

Unlocking NEAR’s Features

The introduction of NEAR Snap enhances MetaMask’s accessibility for the NEAR community. While Aurora, an EVM compatible blockchain, is already operational within MetaMask, NEAR Snap marks the first instance where MetaMask natively supports NEAR transactions. The versatility of Snaps facilitates extensive interoperability between blockchains. The wallet can now seamlessly interact and authenticate transactions on various non-EVM chains, encompassing NEAR, Solana, Cosmos, Tezos, Bitcoin, Sui, Aptos, Algorand, and others. Innovations like Snaps play a pivotal role in establishing a seamless Web3 experience for all users.

Below are some major features:

  1. Users can create an account on NEAR Protocol with ed25519 key
  2. Users can sign transactions on NEAR Protocol
  3. FT token transfers and token additions are visualized
  4. Users can export keys to a third-party wallet
  5. Meta-transactions on NEAR Protocol are supported.

Empowering MetaMask users

In its inaugural version, NEAR Snap empowers MetaMask users to directly engage with the NEAR Protocol. However, NEAR Snap’s evolution doesn’t conclude there. The NEAR builders community, in its ongoing progression, plans to devise BOS components. These components will enable web wallet-like functionalities through diverse gateways, not only for NEAR Snaps but also for other wallets within the ecosystem. NEAR Snap is also streamlining integration for other dApps within the NEAR Ecosystem. DApps can commence integration with NEAR Snaps through the NEAR Wallet Selector.

About MetaMask

It’s a decentralized wallet for Ethereum and ERC20 tokens, presented as a browser extension (a mobile phone application has also recently appeared, it is now in early access and may be unstable). Allows the user to send, receive and exchange cryptocurrency while fully managing their keys.

About NEAR

Near Protocol is a dApp blockchain that aims to improve the usability of web applications. The protocol has very low transaction costs, achieved through a sharding mechanism called Nightshade. This is a first-level blockchain with a high level of scalability, achieved through the use of sharding.
