It is quite interesting to see how Netflix continues to innovate. While the streaming service has been pretty successful, it seems the company wants to dip its toes in virtual reality. Their new Kiss Me First series showcases the future direction in which the company may be heading over the coming years.

The Interesting Change by Netflix

It is important to note Netflix is not planning to create content for virtual reality headsets as of now. Nor will they do so in the future. However, the company is not averse to content creation which touches upon this technology. That in itself is a big victory, and the new Kiss Me First series warrants further highlighting.

This particular series is created by Bryan Elsey, whom some people may recall from the Skins TV show. Kiss me First is based on a novel of the same name. The main character is growing more and more addicted to virtual reality, which is both wonderful and extremely scary at the same time.

It will be a valuable lesson regarding the potential dangers of prolonged VR exposure. Although virtual reality can help spark people’s imagination first and foremost, it can also cause some very serious long-term health and mental issues. Avaddiction, for example, is a lingering problem few people take seriously in this day and age.

Whether or not Kiss Me First will be well-received by Netflix users, is a different matter altogether. Most of the things the company touches turn into gold – or close to it – and this novel adaptation may follow a very similar path. Even so, it is good to see more TV content focus on virtual reality technology and its impact.
