One could argue virtual reality has a lot of potential use cases waiting to be explored moving forward. The adult industry is one of those sectors that will see a new type of user base once they fully embrace VR capabilities. The experience may very well become so immersive it would almost feel as if you are indulging in pleasure in a virtual world.

Adult Content Can Elevate VR To The Next Level

Although not everyone will use virtual reality hardware to access adult content, rest assured a lot of people will give it a try. In fact, there are already quite a few VR-related adult content categories right now. Moreover, the topic was a big point of focus during the 2017 AVN Show, which is the world’s largest Adult Entertainment Expo. Everyone wants to get on this bandwagon when it matures, that much is evident.

In fact, people who indulge in adult content have been exploring VR offerings since 2016 already. That is not surprising, as new and immersive technology can create a very different experience from what people may be used to. The revenue attributed to VR is on the rise for the adult industry as we speak. Multiple platforms are experiencing with new technologies, including haptic feedback, 3D holograms, and experiencing smell through a sensory mask.

To enhance the adult content experience, companies will need to get the basics right first, though. Optimizing streaming capabilities and quality are the number one priority. There is nothing more disturbing than watching a clip which suddenly glitches. It will take at least another year until we reach a global tipping point when it comes to VR adult content. This also leaves a lot of room for experimentation between now and then, though.

One thing that will help the adult sector flourish is how there are affordable VR headsets available today. Particularly the Chinese market will – most likely – introduce a handful of new cheap headsets to customers around the world. All of these devices will require a smartphone to provide the VR experience, yet it will also give adult content creators a much larger user base to collect feedback from. Some industry experts predict there will be a shift in adult content itself, with a larger focus on the narrative aspect in the future.
