The world of virtual reality needs a lot more content before it can gain mainstream traction. MK2, a Paris-based firm, is looking to broadcast four Cirque du Soleil experience in VR moving forward. The company acquired the sales and distribution rights for this particular type of content. It is an interesting decision, although more VR content is always welcome.
Cirque du Soleil is Coming to VR
This move by MK2 creates a very interesting future for virtual reality content in general. With more different types of experiences coming to VR headset users, it is evident the benefits of this technology can be highlighted in a proper manner. These four experiences will be co-produced by Felix & Paul Studios, as well as Cirque du Soleil Images.
With four experience sot be created, users have something to look forward to. The experiences include some of the group’s most famous shows. MK2 has been focusing on artistic VR content first and foremost. It is evident Cirque du Soleil fits this category quite well, as it provides a very different experience compared to what most people are used to these days.
The big question is who will be able to watch this new content. From our understanding, it seems MK2 has obtained location-based rights, but no further specifics were revealed. It seems the company wants to bring this content to Paris, Brazil, and Scandinavia, for the time being. Users in other countries will have to wait and see if this experience will also become available to them.
It is evident Cirque du Soleil is always looking for ways to make inroads. Venturing off the beaten path is certainly an option worth exploring in this regard. With these four unique creations, the parent company can determine whether or not VR is an option worth pursuing further. For the virtual reality industry, this is a pretty big development overall. Only time will tell if this venture is worth the time, effort, and money.
