It is evident virtual reality technology can play a big role when it comes to tourism. Kayak VR is a brand new application for Daydream VR headset owners which revolves around booking travel. More specifically, users can “physically” visit the location of choice prior to booking their trip.

Kayak VR is a Game Changer

Booking a trip is often an impulsive decision first and foremost. This is especially true when it comes to locations people have never visited before. Having an option to “try before you buy” is rather interesting in this regard, although it remains to be seen how things will pan out. For Kayak VR, it is the main focus of their new Daydream VR application, and it offers quite a few benefits.

According to the Kayak team, this VR application is a way to help travelers make a better-informed decision when it comes to booking trips. Users can even get an idea of which locations are worth checking out. This is all achieved thanks to 360 visual content with an audio tour of different locations. This does not just include noteworthy hotspots but also lets users visit their hotel prior to making arrangements, which is rather intriguing.

Users with a Daydream VR headset will be able to choose different exploration options. Moving around scenes while enjoying the audio tour will most likely be the most popular option. Additionally, there is built-in stereophonic sound which adapts to where the user is looking at any given time. This latter approach is something most similar applications do not offer at this time.

For Kayak, it is important to offer users a complete package. Combining exploration of new locations with travel tips and travel trends pertaining to specific areas is an interesting concept. More importantly, this new application is capable of giving users a true sense of scale, rather than looking at a still image. With the 360-degree look behind the landmark, a lot of valuable insights can be gained in this regard.
