Making virtual reality more appealing can be done in many different ways. Google is experimenting with its own Daydream platform for virtual reality. To enhance the overall experience, the company is now bringing its Chrome browser to this platform. This means the Daydream View, as well as other headsets using similar technology, can benefit from full browser support.
Chrome Arrives on Daydream VR Headsets
It is always good to see technology giants pay attention to innovative technologies. Google has always kept close tabs on virtual reality, ever since introducing the Google Cardboard headset. In more recent years, the company also unveiled its Daydream ecosystem for virtual reality, which is designed to be more appealing to the masses. Given the current prices of the Daydream View, it is far more affordable compared to some other VR headsets.
To beef up the appeal of Google’s native VR ecosystem, the company is adding support for additional software tools. First of all, they are bringing the Chrome browser to the Daydream View, as well as the Lenovo Mirage Solo. Having native Chrome browser support is a pretty positive development for Daydream users. This functionality will be enabled by default once users download the most recent Chrome version for the Android operating system.
One of the obvious advantages of this update is how Daydream users can view web pages in a virtual reality environment. Other traditional Chrome functions are accessible as well. This includes incognito browsing, voice command searcher, and synchronization support. There is also a dedicated cinema mode to optimize the consumption of video content in VR.
This is another step forward toward making virtual reality more accessible to the masses. Consumers have been looking for things to do in virtual reality besides gaming or enjoying one of the many VR experiences. Accessing the Chrome browser in VR is another big step toward achieving that goal. This may also benefit users who want to improve work productivity in the long run.
