It doesn’t happen all that often we see a new boxing game for VR come to market. The Thrill of the Fight, while still in early access, is quite an interesting game. It’s far from a realistic boxing experience, and it’s not the greatest to look at either. Owners of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive interested in VR boxing could check the game out, as it costs just $9.99.
The Thrill of the Fight is a Workout Session
It will take a lot of time until we will see proper boxing games in virtual reality. For now, we have to deal with cartoony or horrible graphical games. Unfortunately, The Thrill of the Fight falls into the latter category, which won’t win it any prices. At the same time, the game will give your body a very good workout, and it is advised players effectively warm up and stretch before going toe-to-toe in this game.Going in unprepared will result in muscle ache the next day, as we found out the hard way.
Although the game looks simple, it does require you to effectively bring best boxing game to the table. During Thrill of the Fight, you face off against a few opponents, which each fight lasting for a maximum of three rounds. Things start off relatively easy, but the second fight will require a bit more strategy. Future fights will force you to defend against punches and keep your chin up at all times. It’s not exceptionally difficult to beat all fighters, but you will work up quite a sweat while doing so. In this regard, the game is by far one of the best workout experiences to date.
Unfortunately, the game’s graphics look absolutely terrible. While fights have a unique look, everything else seems mediocre and subpar at best. Despite these graphics, the game has a system built in which will blur your vision as you take more punches. Even the sound clips out at times, which is just like how your body would respond to such a challenge in real life. All of these features work well and add another layer of immersion to Thrill of the Fight.
As one would guess, players need room-scale tracking to make the most of this game. In fact, make sure you move any furniture out of the way before engaging opponents. The game has a ton of replay value when you start looking at it from a workout perspective. It is a pretty decent game despite the mediocre graphics, but one we can certainly live with the price tag of $10 in exchange for the value provided.
