BOXVR Review – The Best VR Boxing Experience to Date

It is evident there is a bright future ahead for VR games which throw in some workout elements. BOXVR seems to do exactly that, even though it is not the most appealing game to look at. Then again, anyone who wants to get a professional and solid boxing experience in virtual reality will have a good time regardless. The game is currently available for Oculus Rift and HTC Vive at a price of $19.99.

BOXVR Works Surprisingly Well

Even though we have to admit BOXVR is anything but graphically impressive, the game itself works quite well. Combining a solid boxing experience with virtual reality seems like a disaster waiting to happen, but this game shows it can be done. The game also stands out among its competitors, mainly because it just feels genuine and makes you work up a sweat in the process. The mediocre graphics do not detract from this experience whatsoever, which is a positive sign.

For the people looking for a solid workout in VR, BOXVR seems to do the trick extremely well. It has a lot of things to do and will make you move in ways that seem impossible otherwise. Even after a few minutes, you will be dripping with sweat and may need to clean your sensor or other VR equipment. That in itself is pretty interesting for many different reasons, but it only attributes to the overall experience. Moreover, the game seemingly collected advice from fitness instructors, which would explain why this feels like a genuine boxing session.

As one would expect in such a game, users need to enter some specific personal information. To be more specific, users need to enter height and weight to determine how your boxing experience should feel. With a few different environments to choose from, BOXVR certainly offers a complete experience for people to enjoy. There’s also some pretty solid music playing in the background. The music also plays a role in the way you approach objects to hit and targets to smash. It all makes for a very enjoyable experience which checks all of the right boxes in our opinion.

It’s also worth noting cheating in this game is impossible by default. You need a proper stance, extended punches, and turning of the hips unless you enjoy missing targets and getting a terrible score. It is good to see games like BOXVR not suffer from cheat mechanics, especially when considering other games in the genre tend to be far more lenient in this regard. It is expected BOXVR will get some additional features, including creating multiple profiles and a better dashboard altogether Overall, it is a good game and one which makes us work up a sweat quite regularly.
