Moss Review – The Best PlayStation VR Game to Date

Adventure games often do well in a VR setting, although not all of these games are created equal. Owners of the PlayStation VR have been looking forward to Moss, and it seems the game delivers on all of the initial promises. The entire environment is highly immersive, and the cute protagonist should not be overlooked either. Moss is available in the PlayStation Store for the price of $29.99.

Moss is an Exquisite Platforming Game

There are two major aspects to Moss: exploration and platforming. In a virtual reality setting, that almost sounds like a recipe for disaster, but the developers did an excellent job in this regard. You play as a ghost-like figure known as The Reader. It is your mission to help Quill, the mouse protagonist throughout the game world. This female mouse should not be underestimated, as she is one of the most likable characters we have come across in VR to date.

Considering how you can control both characters, switching back and forth between the two works extremely well. Quill is the platforming aspect personified, which can thankfully be done through a DualShock controller. The Reader persona is a ball of light which interacts with the game environment. It requires a bit of concentration to get the hang of at first, but once you master the controls, the game world will never cease to amaze.

Visually, Moss is one of the most exquisite games we have seen on the PlayStation VR so far. With so many collectibles to find throughout the levels as well, it only becomes more evident how much work the developers put into making this game look fabulous. While you may be dazzled by the environment, it remains important to keep an eye on Quill and heal her up if she takes damage. The first time we failed to save our companion, we literally felt sad for letting her die. It is this type of an impact Moss makes on players all over the world.

Without spoiling too much, the story of Moss is explained in many different ways. Every part of the level has its own story to tell, some of the hints are unveiled as you progress through the game, and it all comes together in the end. There is no reason not to pick up this game even at full price, as it is one of the most engrossing games in VR right now. There is no issue with this game in any sense, other than the desire for more content after finishing it. Maybe we should get started on that third playthrough after all…
