To most people, entering a virtual reality environment is rather stressful. There is so much to be aware of at all times, especially when playing a highly addictive game. Some people prefer peace and quiet while immersing themselves in VR. This is where Guided Meditation VR comes into the picture, as it provides users with a VR environment where they can tune out the rest of the world and relax.
Meditating in VR Is Oddly Soothing
Truth be told, we were not convinced about the potential of Guided Meditation VR at first. Meditation is not on our to-do list by any means, yet we have to be open to new experiences. After spending some time with it, there is no other conclusion than stating how amazing this application is, even when you are not a “believer” in meditation at first.
Guided Meditation VR does a lot of things right, First of all, is provides users with dozens of locations to meditate in, which means there is a brand new experience every time you open the app. Even so, there will be favorite locations where players will come back to. That is only normal, but it is good to see so many different options from the start.
There is also the option to listen to guided meditations, which is the option we chose. Depending on how much time one wants to spend – between two and ten minutes as far as we can tell – the app will guide you in coming to rest. There is a strong focus on breathing and compassion, two cornerstones of meditation as a whole. Moreover, the immersive experience VR provides effectively allows you to disconnect from the world and experience harmony when focusing on meditation. It sounds strange, but it actually works as advertised.
On the visual front, Guided Meditation VR is checking all of the right boxes. Moreover, users can customize the program length and content, and even switch up the background music. There are so many options to choose from, despite the app “only” costing US$15. The only downside is how current VR headsets are still somewhat tugging on your head and neck, especially when trying to relax. That is a problem that will be overcome in future generations of hardware, but not a fault anyone can contribute to the app itself by any means.
In the end, Guided Meditation VR is a very interesting experience that checked the right boxes for us. Your mileage may vary, but if you are having difficulty coming to rest after a day’s work, this app is certainly worth checking out. Do keep in mind the meditation process itself can take as long as setting up the VR hardware in the first place, but that is something we have to deal with right now.
