Whenever a game launches with a somewhat creepy and mysterious title, our interest is piqued immediately. Especially when this game is available on PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift at the same time. That is still a rare ordeal these days, for some unknown reason. Don’t Knock Twice is a game adaptation of the horror movie. For people who didn’t like the movie too much, this game will be even more cumbersome to get through.

Don’t Knock Twice Is Competent but Incredibly Short

Horror games in the VR industry are a dime a dozen these days. That is only natural, as the horror genre lends itself to VR quite well. It is up to game developers to deliver an eerie setting with some creepy music and jump scares. Don’t Knock Twice checks a lot of the right boxes, but it eventually falls short in different categories. Especially the playthrough time of under 80 minutes doesn’t warrant a $15.99 price tag right now

The game oozes creepy atmosphere, which shows the developers knew what they were doing. As a player, you are armed with a candle, which is a nice throwback to the classic horror genre. Clever environment design makes for  great atmosphere overall in the game. This feeling is somewhat quenched by knowing you won’t die in this game. There are still a few pretty decent scares, but there is nothing that will effectively harm you whatsoever. A bit of a missed opportunity, to say the least.

Most of the game, you will just wander through the mansion, get scared, and move on to the next area. There is very little explaining which leaves some people confused at first. Moreoverere is no real sense of direction, which only adds to the creepiness factor. Pus, there are a few minor puzzles to enjoy, which is always nice. On the movement front, Don’t Knock Twice sues teleportation, but its sense of direction is off quite a bit. Some bugs mark accessible locations as restricted and vice versa. Finding the right angle to teleport is required on multiple occasions.

Perhaps the main disappointment is how you can effectively wrap up the game in an hour. That is a common theme among VR games these days, unfortunately. Don’t Knock Twice is far too short for the price, and there is little to no replay value.  With some semi-decent gameplay mechanics, controls which work well for the most part, and a short duration, the game isn’t horrible. However, wait for a deep sale or an option to rent it rather than buying it.
