There are many different types of games available to virtual reality users. Some of these games are great fun, whereas others can make your toes curl after just five minutes. Fantastic Contraption is a game both children and adults will thoroughly enjoy. It allows players to create life-sized objects and use them to solve puzzles.

Fantastic Contraption is an Absolute Blast

Truth be told, we assumed Fantastic Contraption would be a bit too “easy” for us adults. After checking the demo videos, we decided to go ahead and purchase the game, which was tested on the Playstation VR. It is also available for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift users. One thing we immediately liked about this project is how you can play it while either seated or standing. For those among us with a limited “gaming space” the seated approach is often the only option.

After firing up Fantastic Contraption the first time, we lost track of time for a few hours. This was not entirely expected, as we usually give games a brief playthrough at first. This particular offering, however, immediately catches your attention. The colors are vivid and bright, the sounds are on point, and the puzzles you need to solve are more challenging than one would think.

To put this latter part into perspective, players need to build machines using the motion controllers associated with their VR headset. Thankfully, navigating the menus and building objects is a matter of a few twitches, rather than striking incredibly awkward poses. The machines you can build can be as large or small as you wish, as they can be as tall as you are. With these machines, you solve Fantastic Contraption puzzles, which task you with moving a purple ball to a goal in the distance.

However, the goal can also be above you, which creates some interesting dynamics to take into account. Even though the first few puzzles may seem a bit boring to solve, things become a lot more challenging pretty quickly. There is no frustration involved in this process, though, which is positive. All things considered, Fantastic Contraption is one of the most exciting games we played in VR so far. It is fun, challenging, and you won’t get bored anytime soon.
