Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul Review – Horrible Controls and Limited Interaction Ruin a Potentially Decent Game

When movie franchises turn into video games, the end result is often fairly horrible. No one really expected to see a VR game related to Paranormal Activity. Then again, that is exactly what we got on our hands in the form of Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul. The game is available for HTC Vive as we speak. Unfortunately, a lot of players will not have the best time with this offering, to say the least. It is a downright frustrating experience more often than not, which is a shame.

Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul can be Skipped Easily

Owners of the HTC Vive have hundreds of VR games to choose from, to say the least. Paranormal Activity” The Lost Soul may be on some people’s list to try out. If it is, it won’t be on there for very long, as the game has so many downsides it is barely playable. There are positive aspects, such as the sound, jump scares – the good kind – and decent graphics. It is not a lifelike experience by any stretch of the imagination, but it feels genuine enough to convince most players.

The downsides, unfortunately, become apparent pretty quickly. This game has some of the worst VR controls we have seen to date. It is nearly the opposite of normal movements and could have been so much better. Granted, locomotion in virtual reality will always be a bit of a problem for any developer. Then again, Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul clearly shows how it should NOT be done.It breaks the immersive aspect beyond belief and will make many players turn off the game within the first hour of playing.

Sadly, there are other downsides to the game as well. Some of the environment can be manipulated, whereas other objects remain stationary. The game is also incredibly short, with most players wrapping things up in under two hours. That is, without rushing the game, mind you, but it is a big letdown. Moreover, there is no replay value to speak of, which makes it a game for Paranormal Activity fans first and foremost. Even then, those fans may be rather disappointed in the end.

In the end, Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul is more of a VR haunted house tour than anything else. Players have to deal with a lot of handholding which ruins the experience quite a bit. The jump scares are decent, but nothing to write home about either. In the end, it is a game we had to force ourselves to finish, which is never a good sign. Fans of the genre may have a decent experience playing this game, but for everyone else, it would be better to spend money on a different game they might actually enjoy.
