There are many different types of virtual reality games to explore. Popular platforms such as the Oculus Rift have a larger offering compared to other platforms. Wilson’s Heart is not exactly your average game, as it is all about narration, exploration, and a throwback to the “noir” scene”. There are some gameplay elements involved, but that is the main selling point of this game.
Wilson’s Heart is a Beautiful, Atmospheric VR Experience
The one thing that immediately catches your attention when firing up Wilson’s Heart is how you spend all of the game in black-and-white scenes. This is not something everyone will appreciate, but it is the perfect setting for this atmospheric interactive VR game. In fact, we sincerely hope to see more game developers take this approach as it immediately creates an impressive setting for everyone to enjoy.
We happily commend games when they can avoid simulator sickness altogether. Even though that is something most developers can overcome with ease, it is still a present issue to this very day. Wilson’s Heart doesn’t suffer from this issue by any means, as the movement system uses a way to move from point A to point B. Users can investigate parts of the scene by looking in specific directions, and a white part of the scene means it is has yet to be explored. A very simple but workable system that will keep players engaged for some time to come.
Luckily, you get some degree of freedom as to how you explore the scenes. The game is still pretty linear, but there is no set order in which things need to be done. Although we find this an elegant system, some players may be frustrated by how it works in reality. It is good to see the game developers let players interact with virtually anything they can see as well. That is the main selling point of VR to begin with. Hunting for clues and fighting enemies as you progress through the story makes for a very enjoyable experience.
As one would have guessed, there will be some jump scares along the way. We try not to spoil the story too much here, as you should really check it out for yourself. Wilson’s Heart is a great experience that will keep players engaged for several hours. It is by far a step or two above the sea of mediocre games we have dealt with these past few months. Well worth the money too.
