Cyber VR Review – Fast-paced Combat Hinging on Multiplayer Battles

It almost seems as if the FPS sector is getting oversaturated in virtual reality. There are so many different shoots these days one almost wants developers to come up with something different for a change. All of a sudden, games like Cyber VR come around, and one would almost forget why you were complaining in the first place. Its fast-paced gameplay, stellar killing moves, and engaging concept will keep users of the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift occupied for some time to come.

Cyber VR Mixes the Good With the bad

For the price of $14.99, Cyber VR is one of the more affordable FPS games on the market right now. Although it has no noteworthy story or characters to keep in mind, the game excels in gameplay and killing moves. Your goal is to retrieve corporate technology, but the job will not be easy. Not only are you competing with others for the same resources, but you will need to fight your way through defense measures as well.

Even though that goal should be clear, it feels as if the developers put in the barest of efforts to give players an objective. It’s not a deal breaker, although a bit of a missed opportunity. Cyber VR has other things going for it, though, such as letting players control their full body rather than just the hands. Players can jump, shield themselves, and wield various weapons along the way. The jumping mechanic provides some interesting changes, but it shouldn’t be abused by any means either. Some tactical insights are required to play this game properly, which is good to see.

All battles are well done and fast-paced, which is good to see. Movement occurs through teleportation, which is to be expected from most VR games these days. Mastering this teleportation method is pretty difficult at times, which takes away from the immersive aspect a bit. Fighting AI bots is a bit boring after a while as well, considering they aren’t the brightest crayons in the box whatsoever. Online multiplayer is where it’s at, which may also be the downfall of Cyber VR.

More specifically, there are so many FPS games hinging on multiplayer content. Cyber VR joins a growing list of games in this regard, which can prove to be somewhat problematic. With 8 players squaring off at the same time, it may take some time until your lobby is filled. Plus, there is only one game mode right now. A Capture-the-flag solution would certainly go a long way in this regard. Even for single player content, it would be a welcome addition. Cyber VR has some good tools under its belt, considering it is still in Early Access right now.
