Although HoloDance is not necessarily the game one would expect, there is something to like about this type of content. Dancing with dragons, for example, is something few other games have to offer. At the same time, there is a “grinding” aspect to the gameplay when going through the story mode. Owners of the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift can pick this game up for the price of $14.99.
HoloDance is an Interesting Game
At first, we weren’t too sure what to expect from HoloDance. It is a very different type of virtual reality game. The objective is let you block patterns with virtual shields while listening to music. It sounds a bit silly at first but it does provide a rather enjoyable experience. There are very few music-themed VR games out there, even though this new medium seemingly lends itself perfectly to that type of content. It is refreshing to experience such a new game setting altogether, although it won’t be to everyone’s liking either.
Selecting songs is a big part of HoloDance. While the game will allow you to select your own music at some point, there are thousands of songs to choose from as proposed by the community. People who have similar tastes in music as yourself will allow you to compare scores, which is pretty interesting. It adds another interesting element to the overall game and even makes it more enjoyable to replay as well.
Speaking of replay value, you will have to get through the same tracks several times in the single-player mode. The story mode has different “campaigns” which are split up into different levels. To unlock more signs and levels, you may need to retry a few levels along the way. Luckily, the background setting of the game changes quite regularly. At one point, you will effectively dance with dragons, and even get a high-five if you’re good enough. Deflecting beats in this game is far more challenging than one would expect, that much is evident.
Although HoloDance is not officially released yet, the preview we got our hands on certainly looks quite appealing. The graphics are decent, the gameplay is enjoyable, and the music will always be dependant on your personal preferences. Dance music makes up a big part of the music catalog, but that is only to be expected. Once this game is released, it becomes a worthy Just Dance competitor for VR enthusiasts. HoloDance has a lot of potential, and we are excited to see what else the developers have in store.
