It was only a matter of time until we would see more “trippy” games in the virtual reality industry. More specifically, games such as Star Drone VR look absolutely amazing on paper, although it may not be for everyone. Owners of the PlayStation VR can pick up the game for $10.99 as of right now. There are some enjoyable aspects of the game, though, albeit it is not a game everyone will get their money’s worth out of.
Star Drown VR has Some Interesting Elements
With 60 stages to play through, Star Drone VR certainly has a lot of interesting gameplay to offer. More specifically, the game has several hours of content, and it is of the utmost importance you will clear them as best as possible. It is evident a lot of users will not get through the end of this game whatsoever, though, as the content does tend to get a bit repetitive fairly quickly. That is an unfortunate downside to this entire game, although it’s not exactly a deal breaker either.
Controlling the game is done through the DualShock 4 controller. In fact, you just need one button, as you move around by looking at specific nodes and pressing X at the right time. The game is all about timing and ensuring you do things properly, which offers a bit of a challenge, but nothing overly remotely difficult either at this stage.There are no different planes to move between and there are some different environmental aspects to guide your drone in the right direction.
By collecting stars located throughout the level, you will unlock new stages to play. In a lot of cases, it feels like a mobile game first and foremost, rather than a proper virtual reality game designed for consoles. That is not a bad thing per se, but it is evident this is not something which warrants the current price tag, or a VR-based headset either. Graphically, the game doesn’t look all that impressive either, but it’s not terrible by any means.
With the lack of VR depth, fairly repetitive gameplay, and good enough audio – which also tends to get repetitive – there isn’t much that sets Star Drone VR apart from other games in the genre. It’s a fun little game to play for 10 or 15 minutes, but it will not necessarily get people excited about this type of gameplay. Although it seems appealing on paper, the game doesn’t have enough in the tank to get people overly excited about. Nor is it necessarily worth the $10.99 price tag either.
