One thing we thoroughly enjoy about the PlayStation VR is the wide variety of games releasing for this platform. Dick Wilde is one of those games we had no real expectations of, but we were pleasantly surprised in the end. It’s not exceptional nor complex, but it provides more fun than most other games to date. For a wave-fighting game with plenty of tracking elements, it is certainly not what people would expect, but in a good way.
Dick Wilde is an Absolute Hoot
While having a good background story of fast-paced action are always proper elements of a fun VR game, sometimes you just want mindless fun. Dick Wilde will fill that gap nicely, as it is one of the most fun games we have played over the past few months. Combining wave-style gameplay with proper motion tracking results in an excellent game everyone can enjoy. There are plenty of opponents to be killed and you will have to be on your toes at all times to do so.
Thankfully, players get a nice variety of custom weapons at their disposal. While the first two missions may seem pretty easy, the difficulty curve will catch up pretty quickly. While not everyone favors steep difficulty increases, Dick Wilde shows it can be done in a fun and engaging way. None of the levels feel frustrating, even if you have to play them a few times to get a proper score. Then again, one needs a good challenge while playing in virtual reality every now and then.
There is nothing about this game that isn’t fun or comical in its own way. Your main character seems to be an escaped lunatic, but in a good way. All weapons provide opportunities for different playstyles, but they are more hilarious than anything else. Dual-wielding paintball guns is a pretty interesting and potent experience, that much is certain. All weapons have a secondary function as well, which is a nice bonus. Dick Wilde is a pretty unique game in this regard, and one we thoroughly recommend to all PlayStation VR owners.
The cartoon-esque art style of the game only adds to the overall experience. Contrary to what one would expect, the game looks pretty polished as well. However, the main selling point is the controller tracking, which is as on-point as possible. Even with two controllers, the game is absolutely amazing in every possible way. The game is absolutely worth checking out and offers multiple hours of fun to owners of the PlayStation VR system.
