We have always wondered how it would feel to play a Mad Max-style game in virtual reality. Although we still have to wait for such an official experience, Diesel Express VR seems to offer a somewhat similar experience. It has a lot of action, guns, automobiles, trains, and a wasteland setting. A very interesting and impressive game, to say the very least. The game is available for HTC VIve and Oculus Rift for the price of $9.99.
Diesel Express VR is Pretty Impressive
This game checks all of the right boxes in every way we had hoped for. The graphics are quite good, and the environments simply look amazing most of the time. It will depend a bit on how high you can crank the game settings, though. .Games like these hinge on solid gameplay, a decent difficulty of enemy AI, and lots of bullets flying around. There is no shortage of any of these with Diesel Express VR, and the bandits will do their absolute best to kick your butt as you fight them off.
As one would expect, this game has plenty of vehicles which will pull up along the train you are defending. Your goal is to duck for cover, shoot enemies, and use their vehicles as a weapon. More specifically, you can shoot fuel tanks and tires alike, which is a nice touch. Your cover will keep you safe throughout the game, but it does require some strategy as you can’t just remain hidden forever. In fact, it is advised you don’t, as you will get killed pretty quickly.
The action in Diesel Express VR is handled by letting you dual wield handguns. With a few different options to choose from, there is no reason why anyone should have any issues dispatching most of the enemies. There are additional weapons to unlock by leveling up your rank. Completing missions as perfectly as possible will help you climb the ranks quickly and dispatch of your enemies in different ways. Combine this with that being your only “permanent” enemy, and it is evident this game will provide a lot of fun to players.
While the game is still in early access, it does have a lot of promise. One thing people may find lacking is the story, but that may be addressed through future patches. The game is not too difficult and allows players to use different strategies along the way. For the price, it offers a lot of fun, especially if a few more pieces of content are added over time.
