In the world of virtual reality, there is a very strong focus on the gaming aspect. That is not surprising, even though VR can also serve as an educational platform. Haunted Rooms: Escape VR tries to bridge the gap between both aspects, as it gamifies the puzzling experiment and offers powerful narratives. It is an interesting free app, which is available for both iOS and Android as we speak.

Haunted Rooms: Escape VR Is Terrifyingly Fun

Although this mobile app works on both iOS and Android it is clearly designed to be used in conjunction with a mobile VR headset. Without the virtual reality experience, the app is far less enjoyable, albeit still terrifying. Haunted Rooms: Escape VR offers a very creepy and powerful narrative which can be seen as an educational tool to get people acquainted with virtual reality. It does not provide fast-paced gaming action but has some escape room elements in it a lot of people will certainly enjoy.

Even people who have never experienced an Escape Room environment will acknowledge this app is rather terrifying. The app provides great ambiance and lets the player figure out everything on their own accord. This episodic application will give players of all ages a hard time figuring everything out, which is good to see. Players have to pay close attention to their environment and look for objects which will help them advance. Although the app is quite good at dropping hints, paying attention is an absolute must.

While some people will argue this is a game, the creators have paid close attention to detail which makes it more of an interactive learning application. Moving around in the app relies on looking in certain directions, rather than using controllers or a gamepad. Players often find themselves questioning whether or not they made the best decision at a specific point, which makes for a more immersive experience.

For a free app, Haunted Rooms” Escape VR offers quite a lot of jump scares. This is also what makes it a great app-game hybrid for mobile VR enthusiasts. Players need to gather information and ensure they pay attention to the story, or they may find themselves retracing steps at one point or another. For a free app, it is an absolute blast and one we highly recommend all iOS or Android virtual reality enthusiasts to check out.
