It is always fun and exciting to check out some new virtual reality games when they come to market. Space Pirate Trainer for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive had us excited, even though it is another space shooter in a growing list of similar games. It turns out our excitement is more than justified, as the game has a lot to offer for players of all types.
Space Pirate Trainer is one of the Better Wave Shooters
Truth be told, most VR wave shooters have been terrible concoctions we hardly ever played a second or third time. Space Pirate Trainer is very different in this regard, although that will be mainly a matter of personal preferences. The game has been around since 2016 in Early Access format, but has now finally received an “official” release. There are some great features to ensure players will fire the game up on a regular basis.
Although the goal is still to kill waves of incoming enemies without dying, Space Pirate Trainer presents everything in a far more appealing manner. It has a great design and easy to pick up controls which make the game a breeze to play. Some players may feel the old school arcade feeling which most of us haven’t found yet in the VR world so far. Thankfully, the developers of this game show us it is certainly possible to attain that goal.
The enemies may not look all that spectacular at first, but there’s enough variety to keep things fresh. Additionally, enemies have certain abilities one must be prepared for at all times. Plus, there are numerous power-ups available to players to dispose of enemies quickly. These power-ups drop randomly and can only be collected from obliterating enemies. With these upgrades, players have to come up with a viable strategy to maximize their arsenal’s potential.
Last but not least, there are a few different game modes for players to enjoy. The “campaign” offers a few hours of content, but there is also online gameplay to make things more competitive. It is an excellent game owners of the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift should pick up at any cost. definitely one of the better VR wave shooters we have seen so far.
